Time Magazine's Best 100 Novels Includes The French Lieutenant's Woman

On October 16, 2005, Time Magazine announced its list of 100 Best Novels, and The French Lieutenant's Woman was included.

Lev Grossman and Richard Lacayo, Time's book critics, followed  two ground rules.  They picked 1923--when Time began publishing--as the starting point.  And they focused on books written in English.  That's why their list does not include books such as Ulysses (published in 1922) or One Hundred Years of Solitude (originally written in Spanish).

This is the second major top 100 list that has included a John Fowles title; The Modern Library's Top 100 English-language novels of the 20th Century included The Magus.  To read more about that list, click here.
